Jet Ski Trailer Buying Advice
Things to consider when buying a jet ski trailer:
Lightweight: The weight of the trailer is probably the biggest concern. There is, of course, the influence of the weight of the trailer on the gas - a big concern for everyone at the moment, I'm sure. However, and trust me on this, you'll want your jet ski trailer to be as maneuverable as possible. You don't want to get to the water and be struggling to get your jet ski in the water. You want to get there and immediately get out on the water and start having fun. Just as much, at the end of the day when you're wet and tired, you don't want to have to spend forever moving your jet ski onto the trailer and getting everything hooked up again.
Make sure the seadoo trailer you buy is made out of lightweight material (aluminum is the most common and one of the best around).
Also ensure that the trailer has a tubular framework. This set up is the optimum compromise between strength and weight. It is preferable to angle iron and u-channel set ups. These methods of construction are just not strong enough for the job and are an inefficient use of materials.
Lights: It is essential for your own safety and a legal requirement that your trailer has full functioning lights. Remember, as if you could forget, that your jet ski trailer will be submerged. Make double sure that the lights you have on the trailer are built to withstand this. Check that the jet ski trailer has prewired, marine lights installed upon it.
Size: Double check that your jet ski or seadoo will fit on the trailer. Most trailers are made to fit a wide variety of jet ski sizes and can be adjusted to fit any size (within reason). So long as your jet ski does not have any strange proportions and the trailer is fully adjustable, it should be fine.
Safety Chains: Again, when you're transporting your jet ski, safety has to be of the utmost importance. It is essential that the safety chains on the trailer are fully functional, in top condition, and sturdy enough to support your jet ski.
